The global PC market continued its strong growth of 9.3% year-on-year during the third quarter of 2021, shipping approximately 84.2 million units. The largest manufacturers for the quarter were Lenovo, HP, Dell, Apple and ASUS.
The market has continued to experience a gap between demand and supply for computers, mainly due to the persistent shortage of chips across the world. According to industry sources, the shortage is likely to be resolved in mid-2022.
As for the desktop market, the commercial PC segment leads the growth, while the consumer PC segment has seen slower growth. Interestingly, the Chromebook segment was the slowest segment of the desktop market during the third quarter of 2021.
On the other hand, Lenovo retained the number one position with 20.1 million devices shipped during the third quarter of 2021 with a market share of 23.9%. HP ranked second with 17.3 million units shipped, which is a 6% decrease year-over-year. Dell recorded a healthy 30% year-over-year growth with 15.2 million units shipped, while Apple ranked fourth with 7.3 million units shipped. Finally, ASUS ranked fifth with 7.3 million units shipped.
