Have you ever wondered how Facebook can tag you ‘Tag Suggestions’ once a friend uploads a photo or video and you’re in one of them?
The answer is thanks to “face recognition” technology. Facebook has been using face recognition technology for a long period of time, which would scan faces within photos that are scanned to identify people, in order to help you tag the names of all the people who are with you inside the photo and videos that you want to publish.
But for some users, storing “vital” biometric data is suspicious, which is why they are looking to disable this feature. If you want to disable this feature, follow these simple steps with us to disable the feature, whether using your phone or the desktop version of Facebook.

How does Facial Recognition on Facebook work?
Just like all other digital devices and cameras that rely on face recognition technology, Facebook scans faces by creating a unique digital fingerprint of faces through posts that are uploaded to the site, such as photos and videos. This is very useful for some, because it helps you (helps Facebook) to automatically flag “Tag Suggestions” to other people in your posts, whether photos or videos.
But for those people who put privacy as their main priority, they prefer not to hand over their vital data to Facebook, and therefore prefer to disable this feature, and luckily Facebook allows us to disable it at our discretion.
How to disable Facial Recognition on desktop to prevent Facebook from recognizing your face:
Whether you are now using a desktop or laptop running Windows, Linux, or even ChromeOS, you can disable Facial Recognition via the desktop version of Facebook from within Settings.
Log in to Facebook, then click on the “small arrow pointing down” icon from the top right, and from the drop-down menu, choose the first option, Settings & Privacy, then from the new menu choose Settings. If your Facebook is in Arabic, choose Settings and Privacy, then Settings.
From the Settings menu, tap on Face Recognition, and on the right, tap Edit and convert Yes to No.
